For the Bread:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or substitute with milk + 1 tbsp vinegar)
  • ⅓ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon Swirl:

  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×5-inch loaf pan.

  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

  • In a separate bowl, mix sugar, buttermilk, oil, egg, and vanilla until well combined.

  • Add wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir just until combined—do not overmix.

  • In a small bowl, mix the ⅓ cup sugar and cinnamon.

  • Pour half the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle with half the cinnamon sugar. Add remaining batter and top with the rest of the cinnamon sugar.

  • Use a knife to gently swirl the cinnamon sugar into the batter.

  • Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  • Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

  • For a dairy-free option, use plant-based milk with vinegar.

  • Add chopped nuts to the cinnamon swirl for extra crunch.
